Popular IP, some challenging and unique presented survival mechanics, and some shared world ripe in some wild moments, The awakening of the sand dunes Despite fierce competition, all the ingredients will be one of the biggest hits of the year. With a launch a month ahead, Funcom is giving players a last chance to try before their big day, as the massive “large” beta is just beginning. Despite being an invitation-only beta, it’s already pretty impressive that the player relies on steam, and access may not be as difficult as you might think.
Dune Awakening is a survival game that offers status conditions that poses threats and keeps track of all the lore of the juicy dunes. Not only is the foundation of that story interesting, it is set in an alternative timeline where the Civil War was furious and Paul Atreid was born. Sandworms, heat strokes, dehydration, and PVE enemies all act as barriers to desert domination, and when they become normal systems they go beyond normal running.
Like many of its major existing rivals, base buildings and crafts are major factors. Whether you build a shelter from the burnt sun or engineer an ornithopter to fly to new areas of the map, there is a lot to build.
Dune Awakening really tries to separate itself, but it’s about leaning against the MMO world-sharing multiplayer. Other players use text and proximity chat functions to occupy a server with you that allows interaction. There is a secure social hub. There is a PVP map. There is a high-end PVE experience with raids and dungeon-like aspects. There is a trading system that allows you to sell and buy to other players. There are many systems here.
Currently, to see how all gels come together on the largest scale, Funcom is hosting a closed steam beta. Closed betas are notoriously difficult to enter, but there are several ways to jump into this one for the dune awakening. First, if you pre-order the game on Steam, congratulations – Funcom says access is already open to those who have pre-ordered after hearing feedback from people who are already committed to the game. Other routes to the beta include simply requesting access to the Steam page and registering for email on the official website or watching Dune Awakening LAN Party tomorrow, May 10th, 12pm PDT / 3pm EDT / 8pm BST / 9pm Twitch.
Unlike previous tests, there is no NDA either. If you get in, you can also share clips and thoughts about what you’re playing, or stream them. If not selected, there are many creators who can tune in to get a vibe check.
Already, the beta version is flooded with players. At the time of writing, over 17,000 players have gained access and are exploring Arrakis. That number will only be climbed on weekends. That’s a good harbinger before the Dune Awakening Release Date about five weeks away.
Dune Awakening Closed Beta is currently open and runs until 2:59pm on Monday, May 12th (PDT/5:59 PM EDT/10:59 PM BST/11:59 PM CEST).
