Academy Museum gala honourees include Penelope Cruz and Walter Salles

Penelope Cruz, Walter Salles, Bruce Springsteen and Bowen Yang were set as fundraisers for the Academy Museum Film Museum in Los Angeles on October 18th.

Actress Cruise wins the Icon Award. The Academy Museum says it “celebrates artists whose careers have made a global impact.”

“We are awarded the museum’s renowned award given to artists who are given a singular contribution that has expanded the creative possibilities of filmmaking,” said Sales, a Brazilian filmmaker.

Rock icon Springsteen won an Oscar for his song in 1994 Streets in Philadelphiafrom the movie Philadelphiaobtains the “Inougral Legacy Award.” This “celebrates artists whose work has influenced storytellers for generations and have a profound influence on our culture.”

The Vantage Award for “Emerging Artists Helping to Challenge the Dominant Stories Around Film” goes to Comedian Yang.

The gala will help raise funds for museum exhibitions, education initiatives, public programming and access initiatives.

“We’ve been working hard to get into the world,” said Amy Homa, director and president of the Academy Museum. “The Academy Museum Gala is a special evening dedicated to bringing together individuals to advocate for celebrations, progress and film preservation. We are in our fifth year. We would like to thank the museum’s supporters, including our partner Rolex, and our long-standing commitment to film and our co-chairman for hosting this important event.”
