For the first few months since it was released, Galactic Co-op Shooter Helldivers 2 could have been wrong, and my PSN account was linked. Sony required players to connect their Steam accounts to their PlayStation accounts, and publishers ultimately made a U-turn, but by that time the persistent review bombing campaign had already crushed Helldivers 2’s extremely important user scores significantly. Bungee seems to want to avoid similar controversy. Despite being owned by Sony, The Destiny 2 and Halo Studio have been releasing their new FPS. marathon PC players do not require you to link your account.

The marathon release date may still be off, but a Doom-style single-player shooter created by Bungie in 1994 shows that it is a competitive FPS game that lends at least its name. Ah, it doesn’t force you to link your account.

In response to the game’s official Discord Server post, the Marathon development team does not need to link to the PlayStation network whether they are on PC or using Xbox (where Marathon offers full cross-play support). “I think Bungie just uses Bungie.net, but there’s a small chance that it will use PSN,” one user wrote. “Every day I get excited and I don’t want to erase it when they’re suddenly using PSN.”

“The Marathon does not require a PlayStation account for PC and Xbox players,” the Marathon Dev team account states accordingly.

Marathon Steam Account Link: Response from Bungee Account for New FPS Game Marathon

In January, Sony confirmed that various games would give PC players the option to link their accounts. Account links are not required for remastering Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and Last of Us Part 2, but players who connect Steam to PSN profiles will be rewarded in-game. However, some PlayStation PC ports require a linked steam profile to play some modes, until Tsushima Director Ghost cuts and dawn.
