Indian police arrested a man accused of running a fake embassy from a rental property near the New Delhi capital and retrieved the car with a fake diplomatic plate.
The suspect, Hirschwardan Jain, is said to have mistook people by impersonating the ambassadors and committing to work abroad, according to Sushir Ghle, a senior police officer at the Special Task Force in Uttar Pradesh, northern India.
The 47-year-old allegedly acted as an advisor or ambassador to the configured locations, such as “Seborga” and “West Crika,” authorities said.
Police recovered fake diplomatic plates and nearly 4.5 million Indian rupees (44,400 euros) and other foreign currency in cash from Jain rentals.
They also found photographs of multiple doctors showing Jains with world leaders and showed false seals from India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and almost three dozen countries.
Jain is also facing charges of illegal moneyling through an overseas shell company and is facing charges of forgery, impersonation and possession of fake documents, police said.
Neither Jain nor his lawyer commented on the arrest.
