American Adds 5 New Flights to Mexico and the Caribbean

Spring has just settled, but American Airlines is already ahead of winter and is expanding its services to warm weather destinations for sun-tracking travelers all year round.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline has announced plans to deploy new international routes to popular destinations in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and expand services to Hawaii and South America this winter.

“American’s comprehensive global network is designed to increase access to destinations that customers want to visit,” Brians Not Chins, senior vice president of network planning in America, said in a press release. “Along with extending seasons for new routes, popular routes and major destinations, the US schedule is designed to help travelers escape into the sun, sand and more.”

Here’s what you need to know about American Airlines’ expanding flight map:

American Airlines’ new international route this winter

The biggest news of the route announcement is five fresh flights to two hotspots in the Caribbean, Mexico, Cancun and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

  • From Will Rogers International Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City to Cancun International Airport (CUN) in Mexico: The service will be released on November 8th and mark the first international flight from Oklahoma.
  • Indianapolis International Airport (Indiana) To Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic: The service will be released on December 6th.
  • From Nashville International Airport (BNA) to PUJ: The service will be released on December 6th.
  • Pittsburgh International Airport (pit) to PUJ: The service will be released on December 6th.
  • From Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU) to PUJ: The service will be released on December 6th.

Overall, the flight is on a Boeing 737 on Saturday. This winter is an exciting time to visit either destination. Many comprehensive resorts opened in Cancun that opened in 2024, including Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, Secret Playa Blanca Costa Mères and Ava Resort Cancun. In Punta Cana, the Zerpunta Cana Hotel, a collaboration between Melia Hotels International and Rafael Nadal, opened in December 2024.

Also, this fall and winter, Americans will connect to more airports in Hawaii 50, offering more routes in Brazil and Argentina. Additional routes include:

  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Honolulu, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Hawaii: Daily service will begin on October 26th on Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
  • From Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Kahului Airport (OGG) in Hawaii to Maui: The second daily service will begin on November 20th on either the Boeing 777-200 or 787-8.
  • From DFW to Ellison Onazuka in Hawaii to International Airport (please): Daily service will begin on November 20th on Boeing 787-8 aircraft.
  • From DFW to Sao Paulo/Guarljos Broadcast, Andre Franco Montro International Airport (GRU): Ten flights each week begin on December 3rd with a Boeing 787-9 or 787-8.
  • Miami International Airport (MIA) to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Ministropistarry International Airport (EZE): Four flights will begin on December 18th to either the Boeing 777-300, 777-200, or 787-8.

The airline is also extending summer services on some routes to Europe. Existing services from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) to Athens International Airport (ATH) in Greece will be extended until November 17th. Similarly, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York will run until December 2nd, leading to Josep Tala de Laras Barcelo El Platt Airport (BCN) in Spain, with DFW continuing his Dublin.
