Amid Israeli Strikes, Helsinki Commission Fears for Religious Minorities in Syria

WASHINGTON – Members and former staff members with a major human rights commission have expressed concern over religious freedom in the new Syrian regime and are now facing attacks from Israel in the name of religious minorities.

Israel, which supported the expulsion of former Syrian president Bashar Assad, launched a fierce airstrike that hit Syrian capital Damascus on July 16, citing the persecution of Druze.
