June 3, 2025 CDPR confirmed with VGC that the footage displayed is not “not “Witcher 4 itself,” but rather a technical demo, strictly speaking.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but CD Projekt Red was first shown The Witcher 4 Gameplay. As part of the Unreal 2025 showcase state, the CDPR team saw a technical demo of the highly anticipated open world RPG.

The Witcher 4 release date will not be reached immediately. Now that CD Projekt Red is finished with CyberPunk 2077, the team has earned full throttle on Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, making it a huge RPG. The unrealistic state of gameplay suggests that Ciri’s adventures still have a lot of work to do, but it’s still a first time seeing what gameplay looks like.

In the trailer, CIRI explores the Kovir region. The footage I’m watching is running on a 60 fps base PS5 with ray tracing. Our Witcher also has a new horse called Kelpies. She takes her way into a bustling port town. Here she meets a handful of unpleasant characters, overhearing some timely gossip, and causes many organic interactions between the Witcher 4 NPCs.

The new take on CDPR’s World of the Witcher is fully realized, with many characters spending the day in the background while CIRI is working on their next deal. It’s the best looking game the studio has ever made.

In a statement sent to VGC, CD Projekt Red said, “This is a technology demonstration and not the first to see the cutting edge technology that powers the Witcher 4, but it is not the Witcher 4 itself.

“It collaborates closely with Epic Games to showcase the powerful foundation that pushes open world design more than ever before, as well as the core systems and features we are developing using Unreal Engine 5.

“We are truly proud of this early milestone and are excited to peek into cool technologies like UAF, Nanite Leaves, Smart Objects, ML Deformers and FASTGEO Streaming that will help shape the future of Witcher.”
