Berlinale title ‘Christy’ locks in European deals for Charades (exclusive)

For Irish filmmaker Brendan Cantyes, Charades are trapped in many European deals, including French pyramides Christiefollowing its world premiere, the Generation 14plus competition began in Berlin.

Futher transactions include Lumiere Publishing (Benelux), Transilvania (Romania), Angel Films (Scandinavia), Weirdwave (Greece) and airlines (Aardwolf).

As previously announced, Altitude and WildCard will be released at UK-Ireland cinemas later this year.

Christie Based on a short film by Kanti of the same name, it follows at age 17 after he was abandoned from a suburban foster home and moved in with Cork’s estranged older half-brother.

The cast includes Danny Power, Emma Willis, Chris Wally, Alison Oliver, Dialm Noese and Helen Behan.

The film is based on the living experiences of Cork youths, and many of the ensemble cast comes from Cork’s Kabin Studio, the non-profit community space behind the summer viral hit “The Spark.”

British producer Marina Brackenberry produces with the whimsical British film Meredith Duff and the London and Dublin-based sleeper film Rory Gilmartin. Christie Funded by BBC Film and Screen Ireland.
