Bessent Says White House Can Recreate Same Tariffs If It Loses US Supreme Court Case

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the government still has the authority to impose import taxes even if the Supreme Court rules against the Trump administration’s tariffs.

The high court is currently considering whether the Trump administration fraudulently applied tariffs under a 1977 law known as the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The law was invoked earlier this year to impose tariffs on nearly every country in the world.
