The California Department of Education (CDE) has authorized public schools to use software to hide gender reassignment records and hide students’ name changes in the parent portal, a senior U.S. Department of Education official announced Wednesday.
An investigation into Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act violations across the Golden State found that many school districts kept records about students’ gender transitions that were intentionally not included in the cumulative files that parents are legally entitled to access.
