Canadian distribution veteran Charles Tremblay named head of TIFF: The Market

Exclusive: Canadian distribution veteran Charles Trembre has been appointed to TIFF: The Market, which is scheduled to debut in September 2026 along with the festival.

Tremblay recently worked at Mbi and has worked in Canada for over 20 years, obtaining and distributing films.

He co-founded Mongrel Media and Metropole Films Distribution, where he served as Managing Director for 11 years.

In 2017, he was released in collaboration with the MK2 The Canadian Distributor MK2 | Mile end. When the joint venture was acquired by Sphere Media and became Sphere Films in 2022, Tremblay served as president of Sphere Films until it left in 2024.

In Mbi, he oversaw the Canadian release material, Queer, and Maria Among other titles. He began his career as a lawyer before joining UTA as a training support agent.

Jeff McNaughton, Tiff’s Vice President of Market Programming and Theatre, reports to Tremblay, as well as his existing industry team.

TIFF: Market representatives will hold meetings with potential exhibitors at a downtown pop-up from September 4th to 10th.

The official market venue is expected to be announced in the coming months. This year’s TIFF version will start next week and will be held from September 4th to 14th.
