Exclusive: Mbi has won the global rights for Alejandro G. Inyaritu’s 4K restoration Amores Dogand schedules a re-release of the film play.
4K repair of Amores Dog 25 years after the film originally debuted in Critics’ Week Sidebar, it was released yesterday (Tuesday, May 20th) at Cannes Classic and won the grand prize.
Mbi will work with cultural institutions to carry out a re-release of the film’s global theatre. The film will only be available for streaming in Movies around the world after the theatrical release, including its coexistence period in Latin America until September 2027.
The repairs were made by Criterion Collection, Estudio Mexico Films and Altavista Films, with a new 5.1 surround sound mix by Iñárritu and film director Rodrigo Prieto and Jon Taylor of Nbcuniverseal Studiopost.
Amores Dog It depicts three connected stories, with amateur dog fighters, supermodels and assassins struggling to find love, and finding life transformed by a car accident in Mexico City.
Film-inspired installations are holding the film, and will be presented in September this year in Milan and Mexico City, with additional locations announced.
Amores Dog It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at Oscars and Golden Globes.
“Amores Perros is one of the most moving debuts in cinema history,” said Efe Kacarel, founder and CEO of Mbi. “Twenty-five years after the Cannes premiere, I feel as though it’s an urgent one.”

Iñárritu and actor Gael Garcia Bernal were present in Cannes for classic cleaning.
