Cannes Scotland Docs-in-Progress showcase unveils projects

The Randan and Barry Crerar project is a collaboration between Cannes and Scotland’s Documentary Institute, the Cannes Market, and Screen Scotland, introducing four projects to the international industry.

Reese Cargan and James Heath’s Glasgow-based Landan has two projects in the showcase. Your Honorabout a trans law student who is under constant threat to her safety and happiness in Turkey.

The feature is currently under development at 455,049 euros and is funded at 35%.

Landan also introduces Daniel Cook. Love Letterabout the daily lives of residents in the historic fishing village of Gardens Town.

Supported by Screen Scotland and the BFI Doc Society, a £350,000 film is being produced, with 42% funding being carried out.

Barry Clerer is in Cannes, Felipe Bastos Sierra Everyone goes to Kenmuir Street, This follows neighbors and activists rushing to surround an immigrant van that detains two residents in one of Scotland’s most diverse communities. The budget is 351,946 euros, with 65% in place.

The fourth project is Anthony Baxter’s Average White Band: A Search for the Soul, Produced by Montrose Pictures. And now I’m in the post. The budget is 771,000 euros, with 70% of the funds being introduced. We explore how a group of working-class Scots achieved global success with the 1970s soul and funk band, average white band.

The team will pitch in front of Maria Bonsanti (film consultant and selection committee member Journate Degli Autry), Soleil Garbier (program manager for the Arab Arts and Culture Foundation) and Kiyoko McRae (program director for Chicken & Egg Film).

Not only was it announced in front of potential partners, the team will compete for a chance to win one of several awards, including the International Emerging Film Talent Association (IEFTA) Award, which includes a prize of 10,000 euros and an Al Jazeera documentary.

Each year, Cannes Documentation works with global organizations to present ongoing documentaries during the editing or post-production stage. This year, as in Scotland, the showcases will be from Brazil, Canada, Spain, Palestine and Chile, with a circle showcase for women and gender-enhancing filmmakers and a documentary by Sea Showcase for documentary filmmakers in emerging Asia.
