Charlie Coleman has been appointed Head of International Theatre Marketing at Amazon MGM Studios as the company continues to build distribution infrastructure.
The executive is based in London and will begin on August 18th following his departure from Warner Bros. and will work closely with Stephen Bruno and the distribution and PR team. He reports to the head of Sue Kroll, global marketing, films and series at Amazon MGM Studios.
During his tenure at Warner Bros., Coleman led an international marketing campaign. Barbie, Elvis, Dune, Batmanand Minecraft moviesespecially. Prior to Warner Bros., he played a variety of roles at the Walt Disney Company in London and Los Angeles.
“Charlie is a great executive with deep expertise in global marketing and has a passion for storytelling that resonates across cultures,” Kroll told staff in an internal memo.
Speculation about Amazon MGM Studios’ potential for internal theatre distribution operations escalated with Hollywood Circles earlier this year, causing people to question who would intervene after the company’s international output deal with Warner Bros.
It appears that Mike Hopkins and his senior team from Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios head had planned just that. In the interim, last month it was announced that a deal was being processed international distribution in four releases of Amazon MGM Studios, which begins with Luca Guadagnino’s psychological drama. Continued Project Hale Mary, Amazon MGM plans to distribute its own theatrical titles directly to certain regions where local offices are located, and Sony supports studios in other international markets. Universal Pictures will handle the international distribution of the upcoming James Bond films, according to previous contracts.
