Born in Rochester, New York on November 29, 1940, Mangione began taking music lessons at the age of eight, and his talents became apparent early on. He studied at his hometown Eastman School of Music and began recording with his brothers, Gapman Gionethe Jazz brothers of the jazz group.
Throughout his solo career, Mangione released over 30 albums, earning multiple Grammy nominations and two wins. His 1977 hit “Feels So Good” became one of the most recognizable instrumental tracks of the time, and helped define the sound of late 70’s jazz pop.
