The 2024 season was a disastrous year for the Browns. After moving on to 11-6 in 2023 and making the playoffs, Cleveland finished 3-14 in 2024. The Browns have left too many QBs to be competitive.
At training camp on Tuesday, the Browns lost a key defender due to an injury. CB Martin Emerson Jr. started and went down due to an injury that had not been in contact. On Wednesday morning, NFL network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that Browns fans were afraid. Emerson tore his Achilles and misses the entire 2024 season.

In the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Browns selected Martin Emerson Jr. from Mississippi. As a rookie, Emerson played in all 17 games and started six times for Cleveland. In 2023, he played in 16 of the Browns’ 17 games and made 12 starts. The original three-round pick ended with a career-high four interceptions. Last season, Emerson Jr. played in all 17 games and made 15 starts for the Browns.
His 62 solo tackles and three tackles for three losses were the new personal best. The 24-year-old was scheduled to enter the final season of his rookie contract with the Browns. Unfortunately, Emerson Jr. will miss the year due to injuries. He suffered from Achilles torn on Tuesday. The young CB was defending Wr Diontae Johnson at the goal.

During the film, Emerson Jr. was injured without contact. He tried to get up but couldn’t put any weight on his legs. Emerson fell to the ground and threw his helmet in frustration. This is a big defensive loss for the Browns. Martin Emerson had emerged as their starting CB alongside Denzel Ward. The team will not receive Emerson Jr.’s service in 2025.
Luckily, the Browns have Greg Newsom II, who can start with CB. He played in 13 games for Cleveland in 2024 and started three times. Over the course of four years, Newsome has played 54 games and has a 42 start for the Browns. When Newsom switches from the nickel corner, someone has to step up. Cameron Mitchell and Miles Harden compete for playing time. Harden was his seventh pick in 2024.
