Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on July 20 that the US is still aiming to leave a 10% baseline tariff on many small countries, despite recent comments from President Donald Trump suggesting tariff levels could be high.

Lutnick told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on July 20 that the Trump administration was not trying to raise the 10% baseline tariff levels imposed on many small countries in early April, when other large US trade partners considered mutual tariffs at 50%.
