Conor McDavid became the 99th player in the NHL, reaching 1,000 points on Thursday, and the Oilers won overtime on a historic night.

The Oilers were able to close out a dramatic victory on a special night for Conor McDavid.
McDavid scored his second goal in the game in the second term, with the 1,000th point in the NHL appearing at a critical time for the Oilers.

Edmonton continued to take the lead against the predators, but the game was sent to overtime with Cole Smith’s goal just two minutes before the end of the game.
McDavid’s Relief on his milestone night, the Oilers came to the top in overtime and advanced 9-7-1 for the season.
“Looking at the way players react, that means everything to me,” McDavid said. “Obviously, my teammates are happy and to hear the fans, things like that mean more to me than more numbers and things like that.

“To be honest, it was a really special moment. These milestones are the best time to look back and the best time to look back. It’s been a great decade.
Only three players have reached 1,000 points faster than Edmonton’s McDavid (659), only Greatway Gretzky (424 games), Mariore Mew (513) and Mike Boss (656) do it faster.
Only 16 players have scored 1,500 points in their careers on the ice. McDavid hopes to join some of the sport’s most elite stars at the next milestone.
If McDavid ended up playing another decade as he says, he could aim for an incredible Wayne Gretzky league record for the point he avoids everyone else at 2,857. Greetzky is the only player in history to score 2,000 NHL points.
