Court Hearing Over Challenge to California Redistricting Begins

A federal district court in Los Angeles began a multi-day hearing on December 15 over California’s new congressional map, which state voters approved in a referendum last month.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit on November 13 to block the state of California from implementing a new congressional map that could determine which party controls the U.S. House of Representatives in 2027. Specifically, the Department of Justice joined a lawsuit filed by California Republican Congressman David Tangipa to block Prop. 50 from taking effect.
