Democrats Look to Narrow GOP Edge in Tennessee House Special Election

Democrats see a once-in-a-lifetime chance to break into the Republican lead in Tennessee’s deep red districts next week, making the usually quiet election a test of whether the party can outperform in Trump territory.

On Dec. 2, voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District will elect a new U.S. Representative to replace Republican Mark Greene, who resigned earlier this year to pursue private business. Republican Matt Van Epps, a former state commissioner and Army helicopter pilot, faces Democratic state Rep. Aftin Behn and four independents in a race that has drawn millions of dollars in outside spending and intensive ground operations from both parties.
