He said the characters he’s developed throughout his career are drawn from some of his own personality and emotional experiences, adding that it’s important for actors to look “just below the words” in a script and understand the dialogue.

Depp said audiences have been “disrespected” by Hollywood for years. “The audience wants to think, they want to believe, they want to be surprised and they want to feel for themselves.”

He said he could “barely admit” that he was an actor and hadn’t seen any of the movies he starred in for years. “I don’t think I’ve ever gone into[a role]completely satisfied. I always feel like there’s something more I can add.”

“I hate looking at myself,” Depp said.

The actor spoke on the opening day of the third edition of the film business event “Saudi Film Confex”, which will be held until October 25th.
