On Sunday, August 10th, the Dolphins were on their path to playing the Bears in the preseason. In the end, Miami and Chicago tied 24-24. There is no overtime during the pre-season.

Against the Bears, dolphin backup RB Alexander Matison has had a nasty fall after being tackled. He was placed on a stretcher and left the field. Mattison was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital. He had end-of-season neck surgery on Sunday. He was No. 3 on the Miami depth chart behind De’von Achane and Jaylen Wright.

Alexander Mathison suffered a season-ending neck injury on Sunday

The dolphin depth in the backfield hit Sunday. RB Alexander Mathison, the third string, suffered a season-ending neck injury against the Bears. He was taken to a local hospital where he later underwent neck surgery. Mattison began his career with the Vikings in 2019. Minnesota used his third pick to draft Mattison from Boise State. He was the backing of four seasons behind Dalvin Cook along with the Vikings.

In 2023, Matison played 16 of his team’s 17 games, starting 13 times. Despite starting the majority of the team’s game in 2023, Mathison didn’t have one rushing touchdown. He carried the ball 180 times for 700 yards. Following the 2023 season, Mathison signed a one-year contract with the Raiders.

Last season, Matison played 14 games for the Raiders and made a seven-inning start. He carried the ball 132 times with 420 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. After the 2024 season, he signed a one-year dolphin contract for $1.3 million. Unfortunately, Mathison suffered a season-ending neck injury against the Bears on Sunday.

With Mattison finished the season, Dolphins have Divon Acheen, Jalen Wright and Ollie Gordon on the deep charts. Achine starts for the dolphins. He played in all 17 games last season and got off to a 16 start. Wright is the estimated backup, with rookie Ollie Gordon becoming the third string. The NFL Insiders reported that veteran free agent RB Jamaal Williams is working on dolphins today. He could make the practice squad a training squad as a piece of depth if the injury continues in the RB room.
