Dune Awakening won’t force you into PVP, and Funcom apologises to PVE players

Joel Bylos, currently creative director at Dune Awakening, posted on the Survival MMO website to explain the current state of PVE and PVP, the developer’s Funcom intentions were for each of these experiences, and what will change in the future.

However, solo players still get a short edge of the stick, as the top tiers of the game are balanced around the guilds and groups. So, unless you get along well with the guild, there’s a lot to do as a solo player.

“There are many issues with PVP itself that need to be addressed,” Bylos continues, listing many planned changes in Scout Ornithopters. This is a major reason aerial combat is so widespread. The changes include a scout ornisptor with a rocket launcher that reduces speed maneuverability, a rocket launcher, a thruster that offers maximum speed bonuses regardless of the wing, and a new T5 infantry rocket launcher, improving ground vehicle combat.

Also, since it is difficult for solo players to complete Fantasy tasks quickly enough, there is a change in Landsraad, a divisive endgame system that favors a group of players. Bylos admits that the task is a hand-in and craft request for many items, but this is because “the system is the fastest iteration” and promises Landsraad will become the “an umbrella of all endgame activities” in the future. Like a boss dungeon that drops the endgame route, a delivery task that includes more contracts that require the implementation of a particular task, and components that cannot be stocked. The attack was even teased as being part of the Landslad activity “if you add an attack.”

The general Landsraad stockpile issue has also been considered, and items cannot be handed over after the square is finished, and some squares have a speed at which they rotated. Additionally, solo and small group players will earn “micro rewards” to make up for the inability of large groups to get rewards they can. Additional changes have also been made to respawn timers, vehicle storage tools, hand scanners, and “other mechanisms being abused in the deep desert.”
