Dutch police disbanded the climate protest on a highway near The Hague on Monday, and arrested several times ahead of the annual NATO summit.
Dozens of climate activists have tried to block the A44 highway near Lisse, about 30 kilometres from The Hague, prioritizing environmental issues and accelerating peacebuilding efforts.
“In the days since NATO, there’s a meeting where they talk about global security, Western security, but the climate crisis is not on the agenda,” said one demonstrator.
“I think it’s important to come on the agenda as it’s an even bigger threat from Russia,” they added.
