At least two firefighters were seriously injured and more than 100 residents were evacuated as more than 100 residents continue to burn in East Germany.

Nearly 500 firefighters were deployed to combat the flames that erupted in Golishheide, on the border between Saxony and eastern Brandenburg on Tuesday.

One woman and one male firefighter were burned during the fire service.

The fire tore hundreds of square kilometres apart and by Thursday it was not under control yet.

According to the German news agency DPA, a state police helicopter is being used, equipped with a special camera to detect embers pockets.

Firefighters have had difficulty getting close to the flames as some of the wildfires were located in former military training areas where ammunition was stored there.

The villages of Heidehäuser and Neudorf and parts of the villages of Lichtensee are evacuated.

Residents received mobile phone alerts and instructed them to adopt only identification and cash, in particular.

This notification informed the neighbors and advised them to “cover the mouth and nose with improvised respiratory protection (clothing, clothing, surgical masks).”

District officials appealed to people traveling by car to avoid the area.

That severe heat led to several wildfires across the continent.
