Waynesburg, Pennsylvania – A roadside sunny day, a young man wearing boots, jeans, a black hoodie and a black hat appears from the trail and sits on a flat rock. He is surprised to see him not alone on this warm, cloudy Easter afternoon in the woods just north of the Pennsylvania West Virginia line. During a swig from a plastic water bottle, he follows a two-hour hike from his home, along the lines of trees above the hillside meadows, and explains two weeks later for a turkey sign in the spring hunting season. People believe turkeys are stupid, he says, but the bearded Tom is wity. They echoing, gobbling with grassy stains beneath his father’s farm near the mine where he works, but when you’re looking for them they are nowhere to be seen, he laughs.
