A serious shooting occurred at Fort Stewart, one of Georgia’s largest US Army facilities, leaving five service members injured when soldiers fired on their colleagues. The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody.
Filming took place on August 6, 2025 at 10:56am local time in an area assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team. The base quickly went into lockdown as security forces responded to reports of active shooters. According to US military sources, the suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Sergeant Coonrius Radford, a logistics sergeant serving at the base. He is said to have used a personal handgun rather than a military-issued weapon during the attack. The motives for the shooting are under investigation.
The emergency medical team provided immediate care to five injured soldiers before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital. Three victims required surgery, while the other two were not so serious. Everything has been reported to be stable and no confirmed deaths have been confirmed.
Authorities confirmed that nearby schools and facilities were placed in preventive lockdowns during the incident. The security measures were then lifted and the base returned to normal operation. The lawsuit is being investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Unit (CID), in cooperation with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies. The suspect is expected to face multiple charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault. Investigators are also considering whether advance warnings have been overlooked. Fort Stewart has a 3rd Infantry Division and approximately 10,000 soldiers and families. The incident raised new concerns over the existence of personal firearms in military facilities. Authorities confirmed support and counseling services were being provided to those affected by the attack as the investigation continued.
