Elevator pitch for Storm Gate It’s always been fascinating – a free play RTS, the spiritual successor to Starcraft, thanks to numerous Ex-Blizzard developers who help create it. However, when it was released in Early Access last year, it came with quite a few twists that needed to be ironed. Well, after almost a year of hard work, Frost Giant Studios says it’s ready to escape Stormgate from early access, and removes its much-anticipated debut campaign, Ash of Earth. Both will happen on Tuesday, August 5th, so it’s not long to wait for these groundbreaking moments either.

Focusing on Vanguard, the human faction of Stormate, Ashes of Earth will be 12 mission campaigns that will actually kick the story of a strategy game into gear. The star-studded cast lends its voice to the ashes of the Earth, including Shanki and Barbie actor Sim Liu, critical roles and video game acting legend Matthew Mercer, and even Starcraft designer Chris Metzen. It’s an exciting outlook, something that needs to be landed to get people to invest in this new universe for the long term. However, to challenge the glorious name on the best RTS game list, Stormate needs more than a dazzling campaign.

That’s why Stormgate, along with the ashes of the Earth, leaves early access. The most refined and important experience is Stormgate’s 1V1 competitive mode, with Frost Giant claiming that all game launch units and factions are fully embodied, balanced and ready for some intense PVP battles. The three asymmetric factions for players to master are the “devil’s” hell host, the “angel-like” heavenly fleet, and of course the Vanguard. Taking advantage of the core features of competitive fighting games, Stormate features rollback netcode, which makes multiplayer matches feel smooth and fair.

“After a year of progress with the help of our community feedback, we believe our campaign and 1V1 are ready for a larger audience,” says Frost Giant. “We obviously continue to move forward with feedback on these modes, but we feel that these modes are at a point where players can enjoy them.”

Stormate’s other two core pillars are also available to leave the Early Access-Co-Op Mission and its multipurpose terrain editor, but Frost Giant makes it clear that these are not finished products and work over time. Team Mayhem, the promised 3V3 mode, will also arrive later this year.

Stormate will leave early access and launch its Ashes of Earth campaign on Tuesday, August 5th. You can read this complete Q+A here for this milestone update.
