Gorgeous city builder for over a year since early access began Life and the land A full 1.0 release hit. Its blocky aesthetics brings to mind Minecraft, but this incredibly deep strategy game uses relevant simulations that require careful management of citizens, resources and facilities to succeed. The results are as clean and presented as something like a storm, but with a systematic richness that tickles the brains of people who enjoy games like Rimworld and Oxygen.
Life and land will take charge of the settlement that will grow you from scratch. It reminds me of the lord of a mansion, or sometimes the era of an empire, but deep environmental and population-driven simulations like Rimworld have deep simulations like Life and Land. Your actions will have dramatic consequences for the world around you and the animals that live there. Because all resources are shared between humans, wildlife and nature.
The effects of the weather and seasonal changes affect behavior and create situations where you need to respond. Plants grow only at certain times or require more water as temperatures rise, but animals and people can suffer from the effects of fatigue if not cared for. As settlements grow, we continue to build supply chains to acquire, process and distribute resources. Products must be manually transported to places they need to go, and gradually gain the ability to trade with other regions.
In addition to the ready-made scenarios by developer Kerzoven, the editing tools allow you to quickly build your own map blocks for each block in fashion that is very similar to Minecraft. You can shape the world to your taste, arrange fauna and flora and fauna as you wish, create paths and waterways, play them, or link to other existing environments.
Since its launch of Early Access in April 2024, Kerzoven has introduced physical staining and humidity simulations. This introduced many buildings including the civic ecosystem, two animals that affect education and retirement (chicken and pike), guild houses, trade range scenarios including 11 maps, and Risenna.
Jump to 1.0 has another campaign option: Lenzburg Count. It implies that you drop into the central plateau of medieval Switzerland, manage trade routes and build the castle of the same name, Lenzburg, while investigating mystical ancient myths.
The full launch version of Life and Land also adds a deeper trading system that takes into account factors such as castle buildings, single city scenarios, production options, and audio acting in the introduction sequence. With new granaries, material storage facilities, ramparts, gates, towers, staircases, and rich decorations, it really brings the town to life. Finally, rounds of polishing, menu upgrades, integrations and more will appear. There are also big steam sales to celebrate the release.
