Who remembers Geneshift here? Those who love classic, top-down Grand Theft Auto will do that. The multiplayer battle royale game, released in 2017, changed its name to Gene Shift Auto a few years ago. But now it has been decided to change the outfit again – and it throws away any kind of GTA reference or homage. Gene Shift Auto is now Skillshot City.

When it first fell as Geneshift, it was a top-down urban crime game inspired by GTA 2, but it was one of the urban crime games that was top-down in a legend-esque gameplay loop where you gradually level up your characters by plundering and killing your opponents during the match. It has been released in numerous multiplayer modes, but in recent years (and following the change to the Gene Shift City of that name), it is a free steam game that plays like Battle Royale. Mechanically, it is still very similar – shooting enemies, driving around the city, and upgrading characters’ MOBA-like skills during matches – but it’s more oriented to be the position of the last player or team.

Because it’s a free multiplayer game, solo Ben “Bencelot” Johnson rebranded it to Skillshot City to “attract the right kind of player” rather than thinking he’s diving into a classic GTA clone.

“The original name was chosen because Gene Shift Auto sounded like Grand Theft Auto,” he wrote in a post announcing the name change. “The game ends up having police officers, missions, cars, gangsters, etc. Every time you post a game online, the most rising comments have always been something like ‘OMG’. This game looks like GTA2! “So I thought it was a good indication that GTA was the main selling point and was named. ”

“Instead, I want a name that will attract highly skilled PVP fans,” he added. “Fans who like to create combos, kill flashy kills, master builds, and overtake enemies. This is where the game can play, not cops or missions.

Never once flooded by bots looking for steam trading cards before a permanent F2P switch, the game didn’t boast a huge player count. However, as Bencelot ramps towards 1.0, it is expected that the rebrand will bring new players to Skillshot City.

Therefore, the game, which is currently the third official title, is free to play. It mixes old school GTA with LOL-Skillshot City – it’s really extraordinary. If you want to try it, you can add it to your Steam library for free here.
