Another news GTA 6 Delay was a difficult drug to swallow, but Rockstar is at least committed to something more specific. The previous “late 2025” window is a specific date with players surrounded by calendars, and while Toutou boss Strausszelnick still gives his most confident statement, there’s no further pushback. He also explains why the decision was made to delay GTA 6 again, saying that Rockstars will be able to release the game “without restrictions.”
Rockstar is set to create the most immersive, massive, successful games ever, and needed a lot of time to make Grand Theft Auto 6 a reality. The previous launch window set on the GTA 6 release date was thought to be achievable. I really thought that open world games would be in the hands of players by the end of this year. Unfortunately, I was wrong and the skeptics were right, so the game is poised to drop on May 26, 2026. Despite the disappointment, the presence of an actual date rather than a window gives us confidence that there is no further delay.
That feeling is certainly felt in Zelnick’s comments in a new interview with IGN. This coincides with Take-Two’s latest quarterly revenue report.
“When you set a particular date historically, I think we’re very good at getting to that,” he says. Of course, it is worth remembering that he also expressed confidence that the GTA 6 is ready in time for the old launch window.
Speaking about why Rockstar and Take-Two felt the need to push the GTA 6 back to next year, Zelnick says that as the previous launch window approached, it has become increasingly clear that the game will need more time to polish.
“As we approach the completion of a title that seeks perfection, needs, or lack of it, the ongoing Poland will become apparent,” he explains. “In this case, there was an opportunity in a small incremental time to ensure that the Rockstar Game achieves its creative vision without limitations, and of course supported that approach.”
The first trailer for GTA 6 was a real sight, but that second trailer (if you’re like me, you’ve probably seen it a few times) highlighted how the truly ambitious rock star was. There are plenty of hints that there is an incredibly detailed environment, very realistic character models, and a range of new and returning gameplay features. Considering the expected shoulder and the time it already takes to get the GTA 6 out the door, the cut and unpolished elements of the corners definitely attract criticism. I’m sure a dominant GTA game with buggies will still make billions of dollars, but Rockstars and Takeweits are not willing to take it.
