The US Secretary of Defense told reporters in Brussels that in order to be an alliance, NATO had to be “a more than a flag” when it arrived for a meeting of the Ministers of Defense.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses said Thursday that he is confident that NATO members will sign up for Washington’s request to increase defense spending across all allies to 5% of GDP.

“To become an alliance, you have to become more than a flag. You have to be an organization. You have to become more than a meeting,” Hegus said he had arrived at the NATO Defense Ministers’ Conference in Brussels.
