The House passed the bill on June 12th, revoking its $9.4 billion federal spending. It was introduced by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) and passed 214–212. It could now go to the Senate and pass the party’s policy there. Just like in the House, it is not subject to a 60-vote filibuster threshold, so only the majority needed to pass it on must pass it. The seven-page bill eliminates the company’s funding for public broadcasting that funds PBS and NPR. It also cancels $15 million from the US Institute of Peace and $22 million from the US Foundation for African Development. Additionally, it will ease billions of dollars of economic support through US international development agencies.
