Jimmy Jagger It is the latest film by Hungarian director Bens Frigauf, and describes it as “consensual mindfuck.”

Fliegauf has credits I’ll meet you everywhere in the forest Berlin silver bear Lirakizlinger won in 2021 with the best supporting performance. Just the wind, In 2012, he won the Berlin Juju Award, and milky way, Golden Leopard winner at Locarno in 2017.

Jimmy Jagger, This has a classic horror mock mentality echo Blair Witch Project, The world premiere at the Crystal Global Competition at Karlovy will be different next week.

The director was inspired to make a film while working on the documentary. After a series of strange incidents during filming (such as a psychotherapy self-awareness session and a trip to Latin America), he convinces the close-knit team of cast and crew (lovingly referred to as the “Freigauf Circus”).

Jimmy Jagger It starts with two men in the middle of delirium tied up an old man and drifting into a boat. The elderly man has been revealed to be a hidden Serbian war criminal. As they investigate this story, the documentary crew quickly discovers a group of different people who believe they are owned by an entity known as Jimmy Jagger, who punishes those who believe they are beyond the law.

The producer is a Budapest-based Fraktal film with Mozinet released on Hungary in September.

The film was originally a documentary project, but then transformed into something completely different. Tell us about that process.

We were filming a documentary about some sort of psychodrama. It penetrated deeply into me. I somehow felt I had to channel it and eventually turned into something that had that energy Jimmy Jagger.

what Fliegauf Circus’?

“Fliegauf Circus” is a relaxed group. Dozens of people, mostly young artists. What connects them is their versatility, their ability to multitask, and, more than anything, their deep emotional resonance with the stories that own me.

Artists, especially young people, love to be captivated. They are open to being shaken by creative energy. What we are doing feels a bit like a ritual and I am trying to guide the ritual. That’s the circus.

Our current show is Jimmy Jagger – A budgetless pseudo-document about the revenge demon born out of the deep injustice of Hungarian society. It’s a film that cannot be intelligent. It’s whether you feel it or not.

Jimmy Jagger There’s little to no budget. Do you like that freedom or do you feel unsupported by the institution?

I actually have a project, Bone Feveras it is funded by the Hungarian Film Institute (NFI), I would not say that institutional support is excluded or prohibited. However, when it comes to films that don’t have a budget, it’s about impatience for me.

Ideas like Jimmy Jagger Annoyed by me – they bother me and torture me, until I have no choice but to make them. The model is simple. At some point in life there are always young creatives working on art projects that are weirder and less budget-free than sitting in the appearance of home destiny. And they are right to choose that.

Have you found inspiration from other genre works?

There is cultural inspiration behind the film, but it’s hard to pinpoint. The woman recently reminded me how she threw a copy of (Mikhail Bulgakov) 30 years ago Master and Margarita At the music festival, campfire. I didn’t remember that, but since she told me I’ve thought a lot about it. In hindsight, the book is playful but serious demonic energy – nothing serious, and suddenly, everything feels very connected Jimmy Jagger. There is the same vibration between the same confusing magic, absurdity and existential fear.

It took a long time to film the film. How has it changed over time?

Jimmy Jagger It was conceived as a pilot for the miniseries. They created storylines, introduced characters, and created an atmosphere. But we also tried to shape it so that it could stand alone as a function.

When we confirmed it, I was confident about the pilot aspect, but not sure how it would act as a standalone. As a test, I sent it to Mozinet, the most powerful Hungarian distributor. To my surprise, they loved it. They didn’t even think about “pilots.”

He then changed to Carlovy. That’s when I began to believe it could stand on its own. Still, I am deeply convinced that the core concept is perfect for the streamer series. I want to try myself as a showrunner, work in the writer’s room and coach young directors. The Beast is Ready to Hunt – A story outline is written.

How do you want Karlovy’s viewers to react?

Everyone appears and I am already grateful for their openness. This film is mind fuck, as one of the characters says. And maybe you need to violate some minds. Of course, strict agreement.

What do you think you’re working on next?

I received some development funds to expand Jimmy Jagger On the series, and I will focus on it. But before that, I want to make the right feature film, budget, crew, everything. It’s been nearly ten years since I did it and I miss it. Currently, we are preparing the aforementioned project. Born Fever. It’s biohorror. A completely different beast.
