Israeli military recovers the bodies of three hostages in Gaza

IDF soldiers, in cooperation with general security services, recovered to Israel, with three hostage bodies, Jonathan Samarano, Opidaru and Sergeant Shaylevinson.

The operation was carried out overnight. Following identification at the Forensic Institute, families were informed of the results.

Jonathan Samelano, 21, was attending the Nova Music Festival in West Negev when Hamas launched an attack on Israel. He and two friends fled to Kibbutzberg, but Hamas militants had already infiltrated the area. The three were killed and their bodies were taken to the Gaza Strip.

Shamelano’s aiding was captured on CCTV. Israeli authorities later claimed that his prisoner was an employee of UNRWA, a UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

Germany expressed sadness to the family of 19-year-old Shay Levinson, who held double citizenship between Israel and Germany.

Shai Levinson, the tank commander of Shai Levinson, a sergeant of the IDF’s 7th Armored Division, was killed in a battle with extremists on October 7th. His death was officially reported in January 2024.

Ophila Cader, 71, went for a walk in the early hours of October 7th when she was also killed by Hamas – her body was taken to Gaza. Her husband was shot by an attacker inside their home. Before she died, Ophra told her loved one she had been shot on the phone.

Today, around 50 hostages remain in Gaza, and intelligence ratings suggest that only about 20 of them are still alive.

Around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage during Hamas’ attack on southern Israel, Israeli authorities said.

In response, Israel launched a military campaign against Hamas in Gaza. More than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict, according to the Ministry of Health, a territory run by Hamas.
