When is Judas released? The BioShock series has left an indelible mark in the video game landscape. Irrational’s acclaimed first-person shooter explored a dystopian world filled with ambitious skills, extraordinary abilities and top-notch storytelling. Now, the creative director of BioShock brings us a spiritual successor to science fiction. No, that’s not a system shock.
Judas is the upcoming PC game from Ghost Story Games, an Indie Studio staffed by former Irrational Games developers led by Ken Levine himself. This single-player story game is mounted on a chaotic space station. Does it sound familiar? Judas appears to be the perfect blend of bioshock and system shocks, suggesting that early gameplay is based on the same design principles as its predecessors. It has everything you need to know before it’s released.
Judas Release Date Estimated
Judas’ release date is marked “coming soon” across all digital storefronts. The original release window for March 2025 is gone. It seems unlikely that it will be released by March 2026 without further updates.
Judas was originally scheduled to be released in March 2025. This was confirmed by publisher Take-Two Interactive in a 2023 revenue call. This cited Judas as one of 87 games intended to be released by the end of the fiscal year. However, there has been no further discussion of Judas’ release date for further revenue calls.
The Take 2 report for fiscal year 2025 includes Judas as one of several projects marked “TBA” following the confirmed product releases in fiscal year 2025 and 2026.

Judas’ trailer
Judas reveals the trailer aired in 2022, introducing the main character Judas, who stumbles upon the remains of the spaceship. Outside, in the distance, you can find a giant planet suffering from a huge bright blue explosion.
Judas narrator says that she “the only way out of this… is with one of them.” She suggests she is not very happy with her peers’ choices.
The trailer for The Story of Judas aired in a 2024 play presentation. Picking it up in another narration, warning that everything we see is an illusion. With a cruel twist, the woman pulls the plug into reality, and the trailer descends into a dystopian nightmare to show what the world is Really Like that.
We can get a glimpse of the power that Judas is set to wield like a green whip that appears to surprise targets and lightning that can turn off the robotic target completely. The trailer ends with Judas’ catchphrase: “Fix what you broke.”
The Story of Judas
The official Judas website confirms that on Mayflower Space City, peaceful being takes on the role of Judas, whose “mysterious and troublesome” is shortened at the start of the game. Our next purpose? To escape. You have the option of “forming or breaking alliances with your worst enemy” and how you proceed with it is up to you.
In the spirit of Bioshock, many indications point to some ideologies and oppressive regimes at the heart of Judas’s story. Some posters propagate certain lifestyles and boast “social credit” requirements. The sign declaring “Pilgrims only” indicates that this ideological disparity has promoted social inequality among the Mayflower masses.
Geoff Keighley has revealed who you can expect to meet on a trip, going practically in the first five hours of Judas. Nefertiti, Hope, and Tom are the leading NPC trio that serve as sects and “vie for your love.” These characters follow Judas along her journey and respond to the choices you make in the game’s non-linear missions.
Alliances with one character can interfere with another character’s efforts to complete the goal by locking doors or disabling health stations. They also try to flatten Judas to help them instead and help Cajolee Judas, which may come at the expense of her alliance with another character.
“This isn’t just an adventure game. The story is much more modular,” explains Kaley. However, despite its variability, Judas is a handmade experience that is not supported by generative AI, which should be a relief for players looking for a powerful spiritual successor to Bioshock. Ken Levine also cites the concept of “Lego, the story” as a guide to Judas’ story. Judas Gameplay
Judas’ gameplay is likely to force us to make important decisions that determine the outcome of the story. If the main character’s name is any indication, there is also room for betrayal if he chooses to walk that path. “There’s everything you can expect in a BioShock game,” Keighley confirms he’s quoting everything from Inlational’s beloved series, citing hand power, hacking, film moments and rich storylines.
With so many horse robots appearing in the trailer, we might assume that these guys are our main type of opponent. What appears to be a tutorial is also a short scene with a small laser-wielding bot. Be especially careful of destruction of the robot. Judas uses a shining green dot in his left hand to connect it to the robot’s head, effectively causing the little man to explode.
Green dots must be some form of biotechnical weapon. And it’s a multifunctional weapon. Judas then uses the dot to throw something just before he fires his hand. A similar bionic hand mechanism can also be seen in other characters throughout the trailer, including the pink-haired cyborg girl.
Of course, the biotechnology hand is not Judas’s only weapon. You can also find pistols and crossbows. Both shake the steampunk look. And do you see the hammer falling on Judas at the beginning of the trailer? It could be a one-off look or melee weapon in the Bioshock’s iconic wrench spirit.
As for Judah’s mode of transportation, the 0:40 trailer scene suggests that the dog mech will have him cruise around the planet. However, this fast travel system expects to send us to the linear region of the same vein in the Bathyspheres of Bioshock.
The development of Judas
May 2024, Kenlevine I posted a call to the Arkane Studios team on X (Twitter).. “Judas’ team is interested in hiring people with your talent set,” he reported. Levine posted more calls in April 2025, announcing that the Ghost Story game is in Judas’ “recruitment mode.”
In an interview with Thomas Blass, Levine said that Judas had been developing for “around ten years,” but revealed that half of that time was spent on pre-production. He also revealed that the Ghost Story Game hired “10 or 11 people from Arcane” following a call in X.
