Louisiana, Virginia Advance Redistricting Efforts

As states gear up to do what they can to shape the future of the House of Representatives ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, the Republican-majority Louisiana legislature and Democratic-majority Virginia legislature on Wednesday greenlit an effort that would allow for House redistricting in the middle of the decade.

The effort is part of a broader national race for partisan gains as the White House seeks to redraw boundaries in line with the normal post-census cycle, since redistricting typically occurs once every 10 years.
