European giant Media One restructured its television distribution business after combining it with Leonin Studio, resulting in a small number of senior executives starting out and two new hires.
The move will see that the latter global television sales activity has been brought under the umbrella of Media One’s rights after Paris-covered Media One merged with Germany-based Leonin last year.
Former NBCUniversal and Sky executive Patrick Phelan, who joined Leonin Studio as Director of Global Sales in 2020, is set out with Eric Rouillé, Senior Vice President of Global Distribution and Consumer Products at Mediawan Kids & Family.
The director of Mediawan Rights’ scripted Charles Touboul also recently left the company, with acquisition executive Emmanuel Eckert resigning earlier this year. It is believed that there will be no other job cuts as part of the change.
Media One Rights maintains the sales team of Leonin Studios in German-speaking territory (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), and Christian Goldberg continues his role as Senior Vice President of License Sales.
Marc Arndt is Vice Chairman of Digital Distribution and Marketing, and Steve Blank remains the senior license sales manager for the new setup.
Gaumont & France TV Hire
Zorro and the miraculous distributor also hired former Gaumont executives Benjamin Lepetit and Mediatoon Alum Marie Lassal as part of Rejig.
Formerly head of acquisitions at the Federation Studios and head of television sales at Garmont, Lepetit became the vice-president of Mediawan Rights content, and continues to be led by Valérie Vleeschhouwer.
He will be responsible for expanding the company’s acquisition strategy and accelerating pre-sales and co-production transactions while supporting catalog development.
Rassal will be head of the global partnership and new business for Media One Kids and Family, which is chaired by Julian Bold.
Her missions include commercial development for Media One Kids and families and monitoring pre-qualifications for television and digital content, working with the group’s animation studio to finance the series, innovate business models and lead commercial teams.
Lassar has previously helped revive franchises such as Barbapapa and Hello Kitty, and has won stints with WatchNext Media, Nomar Animation, French TV Distribution and Media Toon.
Recruitment is considered to be part of the new organizational structure of Media One’s rights, rather than a straight alternative to executives leaving executives.

Leonin’s Sales Operation Marge was founded in 2015 by Pierre Antoine Capton, Xavier Nielle and Matthew Pigas and employs support from private equity companies, including KKR. The latter was also a major supporter of Leonin Studios.
The group has acquired many companies in recent years, including Plan B, Drama Republic and Non-conformance. Heart Stopper and Slow horse Earlier this year, a seesaw movie that was solid on its roster.
The company currently operates over 80 production labels on the coasts of France, Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain, the US, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Australia, Senegal and Court, with much of its production being sold through Media One’s rights.
Mediawan Pictures top executive Elisabeth D’Arvieu recently said the company is trying to bolster its English production, and has seen shows such as major co-production and offering US sales opportunities.
