AMD has just quietly launched a new budget gaming CPU with a 3D V-Cache and doesn’t need a new socket AM5 motherboard to run it. new AMD Ryzen 5 5500x3d It has six cores and is based on an aging Zen 3 architecture, with lower clock speeds than 5600x3D, but the very big support for caches can be a decent gaming chip. Is there a catch? Of course, why is there?

As found in the AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D review, its massive 64MB cache slices can have a big impact on gaming performance, making this 8-core chip the best gaming CPU you can buy right now. In fact, even if your motherboard is the first generation Ryzen model of 2017, there is a high chance that you can update your BIOS and install this new CPU.

However, there is one red flag. This is because AMD has quietly started this CPU and there is a clue why the website lists local availability as “Latam”. This suggests that the CPU is only available in Latin America.

We contacted AMD for clarification, but this is not the first time that AMD has launched a new X3D CPU with limited availability in the region. For example, the Ryzen 5 7600x3D is only available in the US by one retailer only, and AMD adopted this strategy with the launch of the US-only Ryzen 5 5600x3d.

AMD Ryzen 5 5500x3D Specification

These are Ryzen 5 5500x3d specifications.

The new CPU is listed on the AMD website discovered by MegasizeGPU in a post on X (formerly Twitter). You can find the spec details. The Ryzen 5 5500x3D has the same amount of cache as the 5600x3D, giving a huge total of 96MB of L3 cache, and also has the same six cores with 12 threads via SMT. If the 5500x3D is significantly different from the 5600x3D, then in terms of clock speed, both the base clock and boost clock are 300mHz slower than the 5600x3D at 3GHz and 4.3GHz, respectively.

This is already a low starting point considering the new Ryzen 7 9800x3D has been promoted to 5.2GHz and the 5600x3D boost clock is also below the 4.5GHz of the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800x3d. Still, if the prices are correct, this could be an attractive upgrade for AM4 motherboard owners. Especially with regard to the minimum frame rate, gaming performance is very useful when it comes to the minimum frame rate, as it reduces the frequency with which the CPU calls system memory.

There is no word on price yet, but these specifications could be reasonably priced. The AMDRyzen5 5500x3D price is expected to be around $199 if it was released in the US, but this is pure speculation.
