He is well known for his ballads, but he actually began making music as a heavy metal rocker in the 70s and 80s. As a solo artist, he was known for his textured croons and passionate lyrics. It seemed like a successful recipe as Michael sold over 75 million records and won two Grammy Awards.
Michael also dabbles in acting and television, making cameos himself. Two and a half men and Nursealso appearing in unscripted shows like Dance with the stars and Celebrity dating games.
In his personal life, Starr married Maureen McGuire from 1975 to 1990. The pair shares three daughters. He also enjoyed an on-off relationship with actress Nicolet Sheridan in the 90s and 2000s. In April 2025, the singer revealed that he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumor.
