Mokster Films boards Vietnamese horror ‘The Guardian Demon’ (exclusive)

Singapore-based Mokster Films has won Tran Trong Dan’s global rights to the upcoming Vietnamese fears The Devil of the Guardianthis is scheduled to be released this summer.

The film is based on the local legend of the Guardian demons who are summoned to protect family treasures through human sacrifice rituals. Set in a faraway Rice Village, the story revolves around a greedy master of a clan who wants to assert a treasure recently discovered, and two newly arrived outsiders who have their own agenda – a young girl seeking the work, and a young writer looking for the truth behind the mystical death of his aunt.

Through the film, Dan, a writer-producer and Vietnamese and US director, aims to explore spiritual spiritual traditions passed down over generations, but also “condemn outdated habits that restrain people’s pursuit of happiness.”

Main supporters include Dan’s US-based Blue Lantern and V Pictures. This is a subsidiary of Vietnamese Arms of Korean exhibitor CJ CGV. A local release is scheduled for June 20th from CJ CGV.

The local supernatural horror features have attracted a large audience to the theatres, including the recent CJ CGV release cadaver, The House of the Ancestors and Seoul Lantern. The trio’s films took about $19.2 million (vnd500bn) between them. The House of the Ancestors It has accounted for over $9.3 million (VND242BN), and ranked one of the best total Vietnamese films of all time.
