It’s a good time to become a fan of Elder Scrolls. Oblivion Remastered has brought the classic Bethesda RPG back to mainstream. Recently we saw a major update to the Tamriel Rebuilt Mod. Now there’s another big reveal – a new 20 minute gameplay demo for a huge fan project Skywindit is intended to reproduce Morrowind with the Skyrim engine. It’s been two years since we last got a full showcase of this nature, and it’s very impressive, showing things like underwater combat and new spells. In even better news, the team has told PCGamesn that interest has been “significantly increasing” recently as more people provide support.
Built by a team of volunteers and working on everything from scripting to asset creation and voice acting, SkyWind is rethinking the third mainline Elder Scrolls game in the Skyrim Special Edition engine. Tamriel Rebuilt aims to expand the original Morrowind with new areas and quests, but this is intended as a more modern take on the classic RPG. In the new video shown below, you can follow your quest to rescue John Sith Dallomax, the Knight of the Imperial Legion.
If you are an Eagle Eyed Elder Scrolling Enthusiast, there are many things to be aware of. You will notice the addition of IMP-like camps and reptile Dardross, designed to feel true to the original design. After that, you can see a bit of underwater combat. This is not previously possible in Skyrim, and is included here. Beware of spells like the classic Morrowind pairing in Mark and Recall, allowing you to set a place where you can transport them straight away (save long trekking to Fort Buck Moss).
You will also get a more general progress update to close the video. The SkyWind team says that all the base game art and lighting have been completed, leaving behind extras and bonus flavor text and more. “Almost every important creature” is modeled, with spellcraft, the UI is “close to perfection” and progress continues in animation and asset implementation. It estimates that, while around 60% of interior-level designs are completed, only Red Mountain, Ashlands and Zafil Bell Bay remain ongoing with external settings.
Speaking to me about the effects of the remastered forgetting, the project’s community manager, “Egrets,” said “It’s encouraging that Bethesda is still invested in an old fan favorite, Elder Scrolling game.
“The remaster has brought a huge increase in the interest of Elder Elder Scrolls in general. As part of this, we’ve seen additional activities in Skywind Discord and the Volunteer Application,” says Egrets. “As an example, earlier this month, we only had six Uncast Voice Action roles down, including filling both male and female dunmers who had previously struggled to find enough actors.”
There is no release date for SkyWind yet, but we will always let you know if there are any details about that. For now, if you want to stay up to date or provide services as a volunteer, you can do so through the project’s official website. Combat music is looking to focus on specific focus, find 3D clothing modelers, find audio actors for the last few roles, such as Dagos Ur, Vivek, Yagram, and soon resume applications for composers.
