Music Box Films acquires ‘The Summer Book’ starring Glenn Close

Music Box movies featured North American rights Summer books Starring Glenn Close, following the 2024 world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

Charlie McDowell adopted Tov Jansson’s novel about the sadness and bond between nine-year-old Sofia and her grandmother, played by Emily Matthews. The relatives and the girl’s father, played by Anders Danielsen Lie, spend time at the family’s summer home in the Gulf of Finland as the storm gathers.

Music Box Films are open Summer books Theatre took place at Angelica Film Center in New York on September 19th.

The distributor has partnered with Kanopy, released in the first narrative feature collaboration on the US Library Streaming Platform. Kanopy serves as an exclusive public library and educational streaming outlet for releases, and the film is available to subscribers and educators after running in theaters.

Executive producers include Jack Selby and Rickcaucas, Arthur Fersch, Victoria Castelli from Muff Capital, and Lily Collins from Case Study Films.

The deal was negotiated by Courtney Kayer on behalf of the music box film, Canopy, and Brian Andretti on behalf of CAA Media Finance for filmmakers.
