The New York-based distributor 1-2 special has made two announcements heading to Cannes, appointing Amanda Trokan as SVP of the acquisition and Nico Chapin as VP of advertising.
Former Sideshow executive Jason Hellerstein launched the company for Champion International and US festival films in February, and recently won its first feature, the Berlin Dark Comedy for Radu Jude Continental ’25. The team will join Cannes, seeking to strategically expand the current slate.
With nearly 20 years of experience, Trokan led a North American programming team at Mbi before taking part in the 1-2 special. While overseeing the curation and licensing of the platform, Trokan negotiated deals on films such as Hirokaz Koleda, Quentin Dupew, Rebeccaz Rotowski, Tyler Taormina, and Alon Soluiz Palacios.
Prior to that, he worked for HBO and spent eight years as an acquisition executive working on HBO’s original programming team. Trocan began his production and development career and worked for films at Lincoln Center.
Chapin recently helped launch a rebooted Metrograph photo and oversees the development of Donaldson in India Good things. Prior to that, he played roles in Mbi and Cinetic Media, where he contributed to Thomas Winterberg’s Oscar-winning campaign. During Mbi, he led the US release and award campaign for titles like Park Chan Wook Deciding to leaveIRA SACHS’ aisleand akikaurismäki’s Fallen leaves.
