US President Donald Trump announced a new US AI infrastructure project earlier this week, prompting him to continue AI development. While touring several large Middle Eastern countries, Trump has been working to provide new funding to the United States, but projects like the new AI data center are a major result of these new investments. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Openai CEO Sam Altman, Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son and Cisco’s president Jeetu Patel were also in the UAE, just like Trump.
What do Openai and Nvidia bring to the table?
According to a CNBC report, Nvidia will provide the latest Blackwell GB300 systems to hardware. Meanwhile, Openai is expected to become one of the major anchor tenants of the recently announced 5 Gigawatt data center campus in Abu Dhabi. The latter’s involvement in the new AI data center has not yet been confirmed, but it will be announced soon by Openai.
The planned campus is part of Openai’s Stargate initiative to support AI development, the two said. Openai, Softbank Group Corp. and Oracle Corp. announced Stargate alongside Trump in January, saying the joint venture will invest up to $500 billion in US projects over the next four years. Additionally, Openai said earlier this month that it aims to partner with international governments to develop more AI data centers beyond the US and promote American leadership in this field.
The UAE Data Center Campus is the focus of a broader bilateral framework to promote more AI collaboration between the US and the UAE, with the help of Nvidia and Openai. This is part of Trump’s broader strategy to accelerate the use of American technology in AI development around the world, and he has been discussing with the nation throughout this week’s tour of the Middle East. The goal is for the US to beat China into these profitable markets for AI development.
