Pakistani security forces killed 54 militants who tried to cross the country from Afghanistan, the military said on Sunday.
In a statement, the military said the Intelligence report showed that the militants killed were “Kwariji.” This is a phrase the government uses for the Pakistani Taliban.
Without directly criticizing anyone, the military said the murdered rebels were sent by “foreign masters” to carry out the famous terrorist attacks within Pakistan.
The rebels were found and killed near an old Pakistani Taliban base near North Waziristan, a district in northwest Kyber Paktunka province along the Afghan border.
The military said the attempted invasion came “at a time when India is leveling unfounded accusations against Pakistan,” following the recent deadly attacks on Indian-controlled Kashmir tourists.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in violence in recent months. This has been criticized by the Pakistani Taliban, known primarily as the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
It’s a different group, but it’s allied with the Afghan Taliban, which took power in Afghanistan in August 2021.
Since then, many TTP leaders and fighters have discovered sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
Pakistani Information Minister Attarra Tatar told foreign media on Sunday that New Delhi had condemned Islamabad’s attacks on tourists and distracted Pakistani security forces from focusing on war with western borders.
