The cozy and rural lifestyle formulas that have been acquired by things like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley continue to form the foundation for a steady flow of new games. All you want to try and take advantage of a more relaxed reality with just fishing, farming, flirting with your neighbors and all you have to worry about, they remain extremely popular. dinkumputting an Australian spin on this core experience has been available for early access for quite some time, but it ended up being 1.0.

Like Stardew Valley, Dinkum is the effort of James Bendon, one developer who has struggled with life games for many years. It was released in early access in 2022, but I was interested earlier than that. It has been shown to be promising for many, and a 93% lifetime user score on Steam is proof of that. In fact, Inzoi and Subnautica’s publisher Krafton promise that they have it behind it.

Set in a world inspired by Bendon’s hometown, Australia, there are resources to gather, cultivated crops, fish, fish to the net, and insects to catch, but also avoid the frequently dangerous Australian animals. Alternatively, if you have the right tools for your job, you can hunt and lock them up.

At the animal intersection, you will concentrate repayments to tight raccoons early, but Dinkum will not only expand it to attract new residents, but also control your town by staying there and charging rent to earn passive income along with agriculture, foraging and other aspects. Interior design fans are pleased to hear that it will also be offered on Dinkum when it comes to home building and customization.

After years of updates, Dinkum just received the biggest of them. Update that pushes it into 1.0 – and it’s full of new features and improvements. Creative mode removes almost all guardrails and restrictions, free build whatever you need, generate items, and change the time and weather. Once you back up Guardrails and allow you to create a controlled cooperative experience, there are plenty of new island settings that allow you to set custom permissions. The amount of things you can create has been expanded. Bendon says it can now build two-seater planes that can display cases of bugs that fly around the island and catch them.

Dinkum’s 1.0 update is now live. If you want to try it out before purchasing, you can also use the free Steam demo.
