He started in the 1970s
Rick began his career in the early 1970s and quickly won a guest role in the popular series Doris Day Show, Sanford and his sonand Partridge Family. His natural comedy chops and everyone’s presence helped him become Hollywood’s go-to character actor over the decade.
He passed away unexpectedly
Rick passed away on June 26, 2025 in Los Angeles at the age of 79. His ex-wife, Candace Kanieckitold TMZ that his death was “unexpected” and that no official cause of death has been announced.
Ben shared a heartfelt message on her Facebook page about the location of Cooter, a museum dedicated to the show. “It seems that Rick Hurst passed away this afternoon doesn’t seem right. When something very unexpected happens, it is “hard to handle” as the current expression progresses,” writes Ben.
Rick was scheduled to appear in Meet and Greet at Cooters Place in Pigaon Forge, Tennessee on July 3, but cancelled because he wasn’t feeling well.
