There were many challengers to kill the Spire’s throne, and my favorite of them just came back. Monster Train 2 He is the successor to his beloved roguelike, who has earned a “overwhelmingly positive” lifelong steam rating from players. Putting aside more diverse deck builders such as Baratoro, the first Monster Train remains my most beloved entry in the genre. It’s definitely not better than killing a spire, but I like it more. That pacing, style, and more targeted counterplay captured my heart perfectly. Now it’s back, and the sequel is heading for an incredible start, already surpassing its Steam predecessor despite the release of the simultaneous PC Game Pass.
Encouraged by their successful defenses, your hell forces will fight their attacks on heaven. Faced with this common enemy, the angels and demons join forces for a sequel to Logrek. Many of the basics of Monster Train 2 are the same. On each stage, you play cards to lay out the units on the third floor of the carriage, eventually defending the Pier Heart, sitting at the top.
The sequel will have five brand new clans to choose from, allowing you to freely expand your strategy. As before, choose a combination of two factions to join the battle, selecting one of the two champions from the main roster (each branches out an upgrade that dramatically changes the effect). Additionally, you can modify the Pier Heart to further customize your build.
In addition to main progression, Monster Train 2 also offers an infinite mode where you can see how long you can survive against more dangerous enemies. There are also dimension challenges featuring handmade testing with specific mutants, and you’ll see how they stack up with friends and other players in the daily challenge mode that is available for completion of cosmetics and with leaderboards.
So far, Monster Train 2 response has been exceptional. Its meta-crytic rating is on an average of 89, and Steam users reviews make it the “overwhelmingly positive” group, with 95% of respondents recommending it. On Saturday, May 24th, it was able to surpass the first game’s lifetime player count peak, reaching 17,914 active users (compared to the original 14,073 record). There’s an even more impressive feat when you consider it to be available free of charge to subscribers of Microsoft’s PC Game Pass service.
