Russell Brand was granted bail after appearing in a London courtroom today (Friday, May 2nd), where he was charged with rape, sexual assault and indecent assault.
Brand (49) was charged last month with one rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault in connection with an incident involving four different women that took place between 1999 and 2005.
The claim was first jointly filed Sunday Times, The era and channel 4 dispatch Survey from September 2003.
According to BBC News, Brand attended a brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court today, before Senior Judge Paul Goldspring. Brand spoke to him to confirm his name, date of birth and address, confirming with the judge that he understood his bail terms.
The judge introduced the case to Crown Court and told Brand he must attend court on May 30th.
The brand denies the allegation. He said he “had never engaged in any indifferent activities.”
In a video posted to social media before the hearing, the brand said she welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence.
Brand was charged with raping a woman in the Bournemouth area in 1999 and oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in the Westminster area of London in 2004.
The 2004 sexual assault charges allegedly resulted in the actor touching a woman’s breasts without her consent.
He has also been accused of attacking a woman in 2001 by “grabbing her by the arm and dragging her into a man’s toilet,” and sexually assaulting another woman between 2004 and 2005.
After successful as a stand-up comedian and television presenter, the brand successfully made a Hollywood career with comedy Forget Sarah Marshall, Take him to Greek Leading the 2011 Steve Gordon remake Arthur. Currently living in the US, he has not taken on-screen film roles since 2022.
